Cross Country Skiing - How to get started

Spirit Mountain offers U10, which is a great program for people who are short on time. This program is ideal for those who wish to learn how to cross country ski using both skate and classic techniques. This is a fantastic way to learn cross country skiing and have a lot fun.

Nordic skiing and ski jumping is a FIS-sanctioned discipline. It's similar to Alpine skiing except that the outfit attaches only the toes of the ski thrills, and not the heels. This allows for the heel to be raised during the turn.

Skis designed for downhill use are usually longer and more narrow than the skis. They are more like a crosscountry ski and the boots are lighter than an alpine skiing boot.

The ski lifts are available for a wide range of activities during the summer months. They also have a mini-golf course, an alpine coaster, and a zipline that takes you through trees.

Stokely Creek Lodge and Hiawatha Highlands both have dozens of km (miles) of groomed cross country ski trails with warm-up shacks, lessons and accommodations near them. The Boom Camp Interpretive Park in Blind River transforms its trails into cross country ski trails in winter as well.

The Stewart Highlands has a network of groomed crosscountry ski trails that are well marked by landowners as well as volunteers. The backcountry is also a great place to ski if you're feeling adventurous.
